Dolls!

Sometimes I migrate to the 3D realm and create little critters. Sometimes I make actual characters. Who is to say

I got a commission to make a Captain Spaulding doll and although it was 90% a learning experiment I am very happy with how it came out. I used an old porclain doll for the base and basically got rid of everthing on the poor thing, even replacing the eyes. Making the doll bald was harder than you would think. Old dolls have these little plastic cranium caps covered by the wig, so no, not a perfectly smooth bald head unfortunately, so I had to cover the poor bastard with air dry clay and sand the ever loving shit outta it. Luckily it was gonna be painted over so that helped with blending a good amount. Fun fact:there is a little metal ball rattling in that big ole head of his.

His face-up was surprisngly straightforward, but it was helped simply by the fact of it supposed to be handpainted and lowkey messy, so that helped with my perfectionist spirit, just hoped the customer understood that (he did, duh, that's just my brain overthinking). Regardless, I think it came out super solid...

The clothes were the actual pain in the ass man

Had to use silky polyester and working with on a large scale is already hell, now making 5 inch pant and shirt?? KILL ME NOW WHY DONTCHA!!!

Somehow worked and all stuck together and didnt fray into a billion strands of chemical chains

But along with that i decided instead of searching for striped fabric of the same texture fuck it ill just sew it myself! Which actually wasn't that hard and was 1000% worth it because it looks phenominal and really makes this doll feel real in my opinion. Prints often can look cheapening and yes the original outfit is purposely tacky I suppose but it do have legit sewn stripes!!!

All the other ecoutrements are pretty straight forward, with everything being handmade though (well the skull is a bead I painted yellow but still, right?) I learned how to make pom poms though which was cool, literally just becuase the line at the craft store was too long and slow. Yay!

A second commission from the same person, this one I am extrememly proud of.
I made him a balloon too but I was not able to get a picture of him with it in time before i had to ship him off :,(

Made this Count Orlok (2024 version) for a friend who went as him for Halloween
He shaved his hair for it so I, a very normal person, asked for his hair. And Voila, it got stuck on this Orlok's head.
It is kinda beautiful how that worked...

This is just a little freak I made for my dad out of clay and papier-mache
I then turned him into a little marionette which I should do with more of my dolls...

This was my attempt to wood carve a doll and I must say...it went shockingly well
but oh my god is it a lenghty process. Well mostly so if you use apparently the hardest wood known to man because you foraged it from a magnolia outside...the pine limbs were much much much easier...

Another dude for my dad, back when i focused more on plush dolls.
I adore this little Krampus and was sad to give him away but he's in a good home now
